How much should I budget for my new kitchen design?

No two kitchens are the same, so no budget will be the same as another. The factors that will have an influence include how big your kitchen design is, how much remodelling you’re planning on making and the quality of materials or appliances you intend to use.

Do you offer a free kitchen design service?

Yes, we offer a completely free service to design your kitchen. You will have a personal meeting with one of our expert designers, who will produce a computer-generated 3D plan of your room based on your ideas, showing how all the elements fit together and work in your unique space. It couldn’t be easier.
At Closets Unlimited, you work with a Kitchen Designer, not a salesperson, who will uncover your likes and needs. We measure your space and take an inventory of your belongings to create a design that perfectly fits you. With our 3D kitchen design software, Idea Books, and samples on-hand, we draft plans that detail the organizational structure and flow of the space. Together we explore our selection of materials and finishes, choosing enhancements, accessories, and items to create a closet that is truly unique.

Do you come to my home to measure my kitchen?

Yes. We would, however, normally encourage you to come to our kitchen showroom first as we find it puts you in a much more informed position to make decisions as to the things you would like to incorporate into the design. It also enables you to choose from our range of units, worktops etc. As standard practice we always instruct our surveyor to site survey your kitchen prior to the kitchen being ordered.

What will the kitchen design remodelling process look like and how long will it take?

The Closets Unlimited kitchen design process consists of the following steps:

Measure your kitchen
Create a floor plan
Select cabinet finish and appliances
Create outstanding kitchen design
Order the cabinetry
Receive, deliver, and install the kitchen
Order any additional required parts
Receive and install final parts
Walk through and create touch up list
Complete touch ups including ordering, receiving, and installing any last parts
Align and service the kitchen periodically

How long is the kitchen design process start to finish?

The answer to this question depends on the scale of the kitchen design project. If your kitchen remodel requires knocking down walls and reconfiguring layouts, your project will probably take longer than one that is a simple cabinetry replacement.

Once you engage our Kitchen Designer, you officially kick off your project. Your designer will gather information on site and discuss layout options with you in detail. The designer then goes to work on your plans. Each design-presentation-revision cycle may take a FEW DAYS. If you know what you want and communicate effectively with your designer, you should be able to complete the design process within 6 – 8 weeks and be ready to place your cabinetry order.

After your cabinetry order is placed, you can expect an additional FIVE TO SIX weeks for those cabinets to be delivered.

Installation time will depend on whether you are working with a contractor to remove walls, move doors or windows, or change electrical, plumbing, or HVAC. Much of this work can be completed while you are waiting for your cabinets to arrive. If you are just replacing cabinetry within your existing footprint, installation time will be much shorter.

Do you offer a guarantee on your kitchen designs?

Yes, all kitchens come with a guarantee to give you peace of mind. The guarantee covers all units, doors, and hinges.

Where is the wood sourced from to manufacture your kitchens?

We only use wood from responsible origins and are focused on making all our kitchen designs as environmentally friendly as possible.

How good are the kitchen cabinets you supply?

Our kitchens are of the highest standard. We use rigid built cabinets which are 18mm thick all the way round including solid tops – so you can be confident of their strength and durability.
Our kitchen units are available in a wide variety of colours either to match the choice of your door color or we can use complementary colours of your choice. All our doors and drawers are fitted with a soft-close mechanism. This helps with wear and tear and makes your kitchen a safer place when you have little helpers in the kitchen. Further cabinet features include a choice of height, depths, adjustable shelving, and a wide choice of different cabinet lighting.

What kind of worktops do you sell?

Your worktop is very important in your kitchen, it must compliment your kitchen choice but also be suitable for your working needs. To help you achieve this we supply a vast number of finishes, styles and colours to choose from. We will help and advise you on your choices ensuring your worktop compliments your kitchen design perfectly.

How should I prepare for my consultation?

Gather as much information as possible. Bring floor plans, photos of your space, and pictures of style preferences if you have them. We also recommend creating a list of the things you like about your current space as well as things you don’t like. In addition, it’s helpful to share your “pain” points, project goals, and wish list with your designer.
Although it’s not required, our designers love getting links or photos of spaces you like and any other inspiration you have! Be prepared to share your Instagram, Pinterest, and Houzz folders if you have them. When sharing inspiration pictures, be sure to identify the specific element that is of interest to you. For example, you might like a range hood in a picture, but the style of the rest of the kitchen is so not you. Make that clear in your discussion to prevent incorrect assumptions. The more information you can share with your designer from the very beginning, the sooner you will arrive at the design you have always wanted.

How do I work with Closets Unlimited on a Kitchen Design?

Our design process starts with a consultation in our showroom. At this meeting we will explain our full process, discuss your project goals, and ensure we are a good fit. And because this meeting is held in our showroom, we can also take the time to explore our vignettes and gain inspiration for your project!

What Kitchen Design services do you offer?

Our kitchen designers help clients re-vision their space to improve functionality and give it a fresh, new look. With a focus on cabinetry, they are experts in the design of kitchens, laundry rooms, home offices, entertainment areas, and more. Depending on the scope of the project, a designer may also assist in making minor selections for a kitchen such as lighting, countertops, and hardware.

Can you work with my interior designer?

Of course! While we do have amazing Kitchen Designers here at Closets Unlimited, we can also collaborate with the interior designer that you may already be working with. We also partner with some of the best builders in the region for many of our projects. However, if you have a general contractor you would like to use, we will gladly work with them as well.

How soon can we get started on a Kitchen Design?

Are you truly bespoke or am I limited to set sizes?

A lot of the ranges we sell are set sizes, so we have to work to the constraints of the sizes on offer in terms of door sizes. However, as we manufacture the cabinetry ourselves, we can fully customise the depth and can also customise the height of cabinets using various door options. In addition, we also have a made to measure modern range which is fully bespoke so with this range we can offer a truly bespoke option.

How long can I expect to be without a functional kitchen?

There is no simple answer to this question. However, there are three basic steps you can take to minimize the amount of time it takes to install your new kitchen.
The construction/renovation part of the process should be completed within a short period before the kitchen installation. If you start too early, you might be waiting several weeks for the next step. On average, you should try to start the process two weeks before the delivery of your kitchen. Construction and preparation need to be handled carefully so that when your kitchen is installed you won’t have to make too many repairs on any mistakes made during the installation process.

What questions should I ask myself when designing a kitchen?

The answers to these questions will substantially aid your kitchen design process:

Do I need or do I want a new kitchen?
What would I like to spend?
What is my style? (Modern, traditional, color, finishes, etc.)
What are my preferences?
Would I spend more for better cabinets? Countertops? Appliances?
What matters for appliances? Built-in? Range? Cooktops?

Can I save money on my Kitchen Design by cutting a few corners?

Yes, but chances are you’ll be disappointed when it’s done. Postponing some things is a better way to save than cutting quality. Put your money into the best quality products your budget can afford, even if you must limit the number of products that you buy.

Should I select my appliances first and then call you to design my kitchen?

This is not recommended. A kitchen design is much like a jigsaw puzzle, where each piece must fit into the whole design. By all means, research your appliance choices and formulate your “wish list,” but it is usually better not to purchase your appliances until the design has been finalized.

What is the kitchen ‘work triangle’ and why is it important?

The “work triangle” is the kitchen area from the refrigerator to the main cooking area to the main sink. Connect the three and it should form a triangle (unless you have a ‘one-wall’ kitchen). It’s important because at or immediately adjacent to the triangle’s points, all the key kitchen activities – food preparation, cooking and clean up – take place. The work triangle helps to ensure that your kitchen will be functional.
It keeps cooking activities centered in one area, with all the necessities close at hand.

Can you help advise us on colours and styles for my kitchen design?

Absolutely. The colour and style of your new kitchen is an enormous decision, and we have an abundance of tools, swatches, and suggestions to help you decide on the perfect colours, styles and materials to use. And be reassured that you won’t be rushed into any decisions on the spot. We want you to feel confident in your choices and will provide you with as much support and consultation as required to get things right.
